Chong Tze Lin
Tze Lin is the founding partner of Chong Tze Lin & Partners (CTLP). He has more than seventeen years of experience in the field of Intellectual Property (IP), Litigation and Corporate Commercial matters in Malaysia and South East Asia.
Tze Lin’s IP practice focuses on IP matters involving the creation, protection, commercialisation and enforcement of IP rights including among others, copyright, trademark, patent, industrial design and confidential information. He has represented numerous international, regional and local clients on IP infringement, passing off and invalidation claims across a variety of industry sectors. He has also represented major brands in strategising regional enforcement programmes and executing anti-counterfeiting raids across Asia Pacific. According to IP Stars, Tze Lin has garnered praise from clients for his responsiveness and expertise, citing that he “found out many important clues to help us in the lawsuit”.
Tze Lin is experienced in High Court and Court of Appeal trials, and has worked on various IP and information technology (“IT”) matters, including among others, content acquisition and distribution, software development, licensing, telecommunication, IT and media regulatory issues, traditional and emerging issues and lobbying with Ministries and Government agencies for new proposals for change of laws.
Prior to setting up CTLP, Tze Lin was a partner of Wong & Partners, member firm of Baker McKenzie International, and his primary practice is in IP and litigation. Prior to joining Wong & Partners, Tze Lin assumed an in-house counsel position for Malaysia’s leading satellite pay-TV provider, where he was responsible for providing legal advice in relation to its business operation and content aggregation. He was credited for several legal awareness campaigns within the company as well as planning and executing the company’s first enforcement programme resulting in the arrest of a number of infringers and the seizure of valuable equipment used in conjunction with the piracy activities.
Tze Lin speaks fluently in English, Chinese (Mandarin, Cantonese and Hakka dialects) and Malay.
